Behind the Inspiration
The dogma of the Immaculate Conception, declaring Mary's purity and miraculous preservation from original sin, was promulgated in 1854 by Pope Pius IX. Mary herself used this title a few years later when appearing to St. Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes, reminding us of the power of God's redemptive grace. In honor of Mary's purity, the Immaculata candle is made from pure coconut wax and pure beeswax, and is fragrance free and soy free.
Mary, the Immaculate Conception is the patron saint of the United States, Argentina, Brazil and numerous US dioceses. Her feast day is December 8.
